Why screen sharing ruins remote games
A shared screen is one video stream doing a job it was never designed for. Text is unreadable at that bitrate, audio drifts out of sync with the picture, and the person sharing has to narrate everything for the people whose feed froze. Any game with hidden information is impossible, because the shared screen shows everybody everything.
Rewind Party sidesteps all of it by never needing a shared screen. The host reads out a room code, everyone opens the site, and each player gets their own private timeline. The video call goes back to doing the one thing it is good at: showing you people reacting.
Only one person hears the song at a time
The clip plays on the phone of whoever is taking their turn. That is deliberate — it means audio lag on the call cannot spoil anyone, and nobody gets an unfair head start from hearing the track early through someone else’s microphone.
It also creates the best moment in the game: for ten seconds, one person is listening intently while nine people watch their face and try to read the answer off it.
Built for flaky connections
Remote game nights involve people wandering off to answer the door. If a player backgrounds their phone or drops off for a moment, their seat is held rather than freed, and they reconnect to the same timeline and score.
People who join the call late are not stuck watching either — they queue as spectators and are dealt into the next game automatically, so you can keep playing while someone finds the link.
